JUNE 20, 2021
Dear Alliant Students,
This year, we celebrated our graduating class with a video ceremony. Our goal was to provide our graduates with an experience that acknowledged their incredible accomplishments, while ensuring the safety of our Alliant community. This goal remains throughout the rest of 2021, and while we finalize our plans and guidelines surrounding on-campus activities for the rest of the year, we have decided to not host any in-person commencement events until our 2022 commencement ceremony in May.
We will be sure to honor you and all students who were unable to have an in-person ceremony by inviting all graduates from the classes of 2020 and 2021 to participate in the 2022 ceremony, and we would like to know if you would be interested in participating in the ceremony. Please fill out the survey below.

Commencement and Graduate Celebration Activities: Spring and Fall 2021
We recently announced our plans for a virtual commencement celebration in the Spring and have received several emails advocating for in-person Commencement activities.
We know how important this milestone is to you, your families, and the support group who helped you achieve the culmination of your educational journey. Our goal is to celebrate you in any way we can and to provide an experience that will acknowledge your incredible accomplishments while safeguarding the health and wellbeing of our community.
Spring 2021 Commencement, Fall 2021 Events
While our plans for a Spring 2021 ceremony remain focused on the planned virtual ceremony on Thursday, May 20th at 5pm PST, the Alliant Commencement Team is actively monitoring the changing state and county guidelines related to in-person activities and considering additional options that may allow us to safely celebrate our graduates in person in fall 2021.
Options under consideration include recognition activities at a program and campus level that will allow for the inclusion of doctoral hooding ceremonies. Should we move forward with these celebrations, Graduates from 2021 and 2020 would be invited to participate in the fall 2021 recognition activities and would be permitted to invite a limited number of guests to attend the in-person recognition activities.
Of course, all planning for in-person activities is contingent upon adherence with state and local county guidelines regarding COVID tier permitted activities for in-person gatherings.
Additional information regarding the University’s plans for in-person recognition activities for fall 2021 will be sent in June 2021.
We also want to thank everyone who reached out, as it is vital to understand what the community would like to see for our commencement celebrations and your input is invaluable. Please do not hesitate to share further input and your suggestions for the fall 2021 recognition activities with the commencement team at email@example.com.

Class of 2021,
This year, we will be hosting a virtual commencement event to honor our graduates. This hour-long, special event will take place on Thursday, May 20th at 5pm PST and will be available to watch with your family and friends online.
While we won’t be together physically this year, our goal is to provide an experience that will celebrate your incredible accomplishments while safeguarding the health and wellbeing of our community. The format of this celebration will also provide the opportunity for you to celebrate the culmination of your educational journey while including the people in your life who helped you get there, no matter how many or where they are.
Participate in the Virtual Commencement Program
In order to make this a truly special event, we need your participation. Here is how you can take part:
Voices of Diversity
We will be continuing our tradition of Alliant’s “Voices of Diversity” commencement program with our 2021 graduates reciting Alliant’s mission statement in their native languages. If you would like to participate, please fill out this Voices of Diversity Form
Each year, one student is selected to be the graduating class’ commencement speaker for their campus, to share their experience, well wishes, and motivational message with the Alliant community during the ceremony. If you would like to apply to become the class 2021 student speaker for your campus, please fill out this Student Commencement Speaker Form
Alliant Thank You Project
A new and unique aspect of the 2021 ceremony will be inclusion of the ‘Thank You Project’ which will include a compilation of our graduates holding signs with reasons they are thankful for Alliant and our community. If you would like to submit your photo, please fill out the Thank You Alliant Form.
Social Media Wall
We will be creating a social media wall which will allow your family, friends, and loved ones to share their congratulatory messages using the hashtag #AlliantGrad2021. Posts from Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, using that hashtag, will automatically be included in the social media wall, creating a collection of well-wishes, hopes for the future, and sentiments of pride from your loved ones, all on one commemorative page.
In addition to the system-wide celebration, your program may host a smaller, program-based virtual celebration. Details will follow at a later time.
We will be reaching out with further information and look forward to celebrating our Alliant Class of 2021.
